It's going to be a great day for this service project and helping in our community. Below are some things that you should know/frequently asked questions.
NEW FOR THIS YEAR - WE HAVE A TRACKING WEBSITE!
This year we are trying something new with assigning and tracking zones. We have created a website where you can choose your zone and sign up for it (maybe you have your favorite zone every year or like canvasing your own neighborhood). If you are able to do both weekends, it is highly recommended that you choose the same zone for both weekends (easier for you since you know the territory the second weekend). If you do not have a preferred zone or this is your first time, we will assign you a zone Saturday morning. The website will be used for tracking on both days so please make sure you can access it from your phone and have it saved and ready to go. http://troop71-sff.netlify.app
WHO WE'RE HELPING
Everything we collect goes to the Allentown Rescue Mission, which has served men experiencing homelessness in the Lehigh Valley since 1900. Each year it shelters nearly 1,000 men and serves more than 65,000 meals, with no government funding. It runs on community support like ours. In recent years our troop and pack have delivered 2,000 to 4,000 pounds of food. Let's top that!
THE TWO SATURDAYS
Door-to-Door Canvassing Day: THIS COMING SATURDAY, Nov 7, 8:30 AM at the Macungie Institute. Scouts and parents hang a door hanger on every front door in their zone. No knocking, no doorbells.
Food Donation Collection Day: Saturday, Nov 14, 8:30 AM at the Macungie Institute. Scouts and parents pick up the food donations residents leave out in their zone and bring them back to the Institute.
GOOD TO KNOW
Wear your Class A uniform.
Each zone gets a printed sheet with a map and a 4-digit zone code.
Please start and begin your days at the Institute. We will have a brief meeting each morning to go over any news/updates. You should return after your zone is complete to report on any issues, return extra flyers, grab additional flyers if needed, or report any incomplete areas of your zone.
Stay with your buddy or an adult, stay off lawns, and never go inside a home. Honor all "No Trespassing" and "No Soliciting" signs.
If you can save any cardboard boxes between now and 11/14, please bring them with you to the Institute on either day. We don't need super large boxes, preferably small and medium since we receive a lot of canned goods that weigh a lot and pack nicer in smaller boxes.
CAN YOUR FAMILY DONATE????
The Mission's most-needed shelf-stable food items are cereal, ground coffee, canned fruit and vegetables, fruit cups, pasta sauce, and bottled water. For supplies, they are in urgent need of laundry detergent (liquid), toilet paper, paper towels, surface cleaners and disinfectants, and hand soap.
